  2. Perimeter • Perimeter- the distance around a polygon. • Perimeter (p) = 3 + 7 + 5 + 4 + 5 p = 24 cm.

  3. Perimeter of a Square • Since a square has 4 sides (s) that have equal lengths, you can use the formula: p = 4s p = 4(9 ft.) p = 36 ft.

  4. Perimeter of a Rectangle • Since a rectangle has two equal lengths (L), and two equal widths (w), you can use the formula: p = 2L + 2w p = 2 (23yd.) + 2 (13) p = 46yd. + 26yd. p= 72 yd.

  5. How can you find the perimeter of a polygon that has unknown sides? x y • To find x: • 2 cm + x = 8 cm • X = 6 cm • To find y: • y + 5cm = 10 cm • Y = 5 cm

  7. Area of Squares and Rectangles • Area- is the amount of surface it covers • It is measured in square units so make sure you write units • ft² • Formula: area = length x width a = lx w

  8. Area of a rectangle • a = l x w • a = 5cm x 8 cm • a = 40 cm²

  9. Area of a Square • a = l x w • a = 6ft. X 6ft. • a = 36 ft. ²
