* this is to cover the organisation, its staff and volunteers for their legal liability to third parties for personal injury and/or property damage.

  • Third parties include but are not limited to:
    • Clients
    • General public
    • Other organisations/visitors

  • Declare all activities not just core activities

    • Agreements effecting subrogation rights
    • Hold-harmless agreements where people may contract-out or remove the subrogation rights
    • Contracts or lease agreements (Hall hire)
    • New events, fairs, festivals, dinners or activities
    • Limits of liability
    • Volunteers
  • Excludes:
    • All contractors/subcontractors
    • Participation in sporting events (unless agreed)
    • Activities not advised to Insurers
    • Third Party Hirers

Liabilities

  • Exposure to third parties for negligent Property Damage or Personal Injury – usually results from your activities where legal action is brought against the organisation for the below.
  • Types of claims that can occur:-
    • Slip and fall
    • Damage to property, i.e. walls, parked vehicles, third party equipment
    • Food poisoning
    • Goods in care, custody and control, destroyed or stolen
    • Table collapsed on third party
    • Assault
    • Injury to patrons whilst assisting them

  • Covers your organisation for giving advice i.e. information on transport, respite/health care, education, courses, etc.
  • Protects – Board of Management/Staff/Volunteers

    • Volunteers
    • Sporting groups – referees/instructors/participants

Voluntary Workers Personal Accident

  • Coverage is as follows:-
  • Interest – accidental injury or death, and the payment of weekly benefits, whilst engaged in various voluntary activities including travel associated therewith
  • Situation – anywhere in Australia
  • Benefit Period – 104 weeks (except medical)
  • Sum Insured*
    • e.g. Death and capital benefits $25,000
    • e.g. Weekly benefits $500

** At the option of your organisation

  • Benefits you should look for on a policy
    • Home help – linked to Weekly Benefit(limited to 52 Weeks for Over 65 Years of Age)
    • Student tutorial – linked to Weekly Benefit
    • Paraplegia or quadriplegia up to $10,000
    • Non-Medicare medical expenses (12 months from date of injury)

- Up to $10,000 per claim for Australia residents

    • Funeral expenses - $10,000
    • Pharmaceutical expenses - $1,000

    • Stamp Duty exemptions.
    • Trading name, incorporated body or private company
