  1. A Paper Presentation On Energy Conservation and procedure of Energy Audit Presented By Mr. Shubham N. Charde Final Year Diploma in Electrical Engg. Government Polytechnic, Arvi. Distt. Wardha. 2011-2012

  2. Contents • INTRODUCTION • PROCEDURE OF ENERGY AUDIT • MEASUREMENT IN ENERGY AUDIT • VARIOUS MEASURING INSTRUMENT OF ENERGY AUDIT • ADVANTAGE OF ENERGY CONSERVATION ENERGY AUDIT • ADVANTAGE OF ENERGY CONSERVATION ENERGY AUDIT • CONCLUSION • REFERENCES

  3. INTRODUCTION • Energy conservation • Energy conservation refers to efforts made to reduce energy consumption. Energy conservation can be achieved through increased efficient energy use, in conjunction with decreased energy consumption and/or reduced consumption from conventional energy sources. Need of energy Conservation:- • Energy conservation reduces the energy consumption and energy demand. • Energy conservation is an important element of energy policy • This reduces the rise in energy costs, and can reduce the need for new power plants, and energy imports. • To make power available to all, promotion of energy efficiency and its conservation is more important.

  4. Energy Audit • An energy audit is a preliminary activity towards organizing energy efficiency programs in an establishment. Need of an Energy Audit:- • To organize the correct energy efficiency programs, you have to know first which areas in your establishment unnecessarily consume too much energy, e.g. which is the, sot cost effective to improve. • An energy audit identifies where energy is being consumed and assesses energy saving opportunity- so you get to save money where it counts the most. • In factory, if an energy audit is done, then, it increase awareness of energy issues among plant personnel, making them more knowledgeable about proper practices that will make them more productive. • An energy audit gauge the energy efficiency pf your plant against “ Best practices”. • During annual evaluation of factory performance energy audit assesses money saved through energy conservation techniques.

  5. Start Up Meeting Analysis of Energy • FLOW CHAR T OF PROCEDURE OF ENERGY AUDIT Collecting Basic Data Observation of Actual Field Cost Benefit analysis of Data Reporting Action plane for the implementation of the saving measure

  6. PROCEDURE OF ENERGY AUDIT • Start-up meeting : • The procedure starts with a start up meeting. • It then continues until imprementation of energy saving measures • Analysis of energy use: • Identify where energy is used. • It identifies the areas on which the audit should concentrate. • It increases awareness of energy expenses and use. • The results of the analysis can be in the review of management structure and procedure for controlling energy use • Collecting basic data : • Operating Hours • Duty cycle • Actual power Consumed

  7. Observation of Actual Field • Cost benefit analysis of the data • Reporting • After cost benefit analysis we have to make report of the total analysis done from starting of the meeting. • Action plan for the implementation of saving measures. • Priority of the project must be considered. • All the major steps must be included in the action plan for the proper implementation of the cost benefit project. • As well as all the people responsible for the project must be included in the action plan.

  8. MEASUREMENT IN ENERGY AUDIT • Basic Electrical Parameter in AC & DC system • Voltage (V) • Current(I) • Power factor • Active Power (kW) • Reactive Power (kVAR) • Apparent Power (kVA) • Energy requirement (kWh) • Frequency of the system (Hz) • Harmonics etc.

  9. VARIOUS MEASURING INSTRUMENT OF ENERGY AUDIT • Tachometer It is used to measuring speed of motor • Luxmeter Illumination levels are measured with luxmeter.

  10. Clip on Dig PF meter It used for measurement of power factor without interrupting the connection. A power factor meter is a kind of electrodynamometer • Digital multimeter A typical multimeter may include features such as the ability to measure voltage, current and resistance.

  11. ADVANTAGE OF ENERGY CONSERVATION ENERGY AUDIT • Accurate monitoring of the utilities in the plant. • Reduced Operating Costs • Reduction in the amount of Energy required for the generation and use of the utility. • Trapping of any unused energy • Recycling and use of energy over again. • Enhanced Environmental Quality & Decreased Pollution

  12. CONCLUSION • Energy Audit is thus the key to a systematic approach for decision- making in the area of Energy Management. • Energy audit identifies where energy is being consumed and assesses energy saving opportunities so you get to save money where it counts the most. • An energy audit improves and compares the energy efficiency of plant against “Best practices”.
