  2. INTRODUCTION The school is located on the edge of the city, in a public housing area, with housing assigned by the municipality to Italian or foreign families who live in a condition of social distress. There is a high density of people coming from different countries which is the cause of many tensions. Families come from their countries, from other cities or from other areas of Bologna at all times of the year so the school has planned a welcoming system that can be used with every new arrival.

  3. First stage 1st- 15th Sept. (extra school time.) • Entry test • Literacy lessons for new students Consolidation courses for resident or second-generation students

  4. Second stage 15th – 30th Sept • Students’ integration in the classroom according to their age • Welcoming activities to encourage inclusion and socialization • Literacy lessons during school hours

  5. Third stage October – June Group levels activities Afternoon classes from Monday to Friday, from 2pm to 4pm that include science, maths, Italian, I.T classes or activities such as swimming, rugby, skateboarding, handball, juggling, painting

  6. Fourth stage June - July From Monday to Friday the school arranges summer activities for all students (swimming, camping, trips) to encourage socialization and integration There are also shows for all the citizens who live in the school area

  7. Afternoon lessons are held by school teachers and experts. All afternoon classes are financed from the school budget.

  8. The first stage is for foreign students only. The second and third stages are for all students (Italian and foreigners)

  9. SCHOOL CURRICULUM The SCHOOL CURRICULUM is customized according to our foreign students’ skills to allow them to attend literacy lessons: e.g.possibility of substituting French lessons (2nd EU language) with Italian lessons

  10. EVALUATION The evaluation at the end of every term or year considers students’ starting point, their improvements and their activity attendance

  11. All activities are offered to new students at all times of the year: if a student arrives between the months of April and June, he will attend all activities as “observer” socializing with the schoolmates he will meet again the following year.
