  4. New Dynasty • After conquering China Kublai tried to extend his rule to Japan. • He sent huge fleets against Japan. Korean were forced to build and supply these fleets. • Kublai move the capital from Mongol to China. • One of his Chinese advisers told him “I have heard that one can conquer the empire on horseback, but one cannot govern it on horseback.”

The Lost Fleet • 150,000 Mongols, Chinese, and Korean warriors • Set sail to Invade Japan • Largest sea born invasion before WWII • After 53 days of fighting the sky darkens and a typhoon swept furiously across the sea of Japan. Destroying Kublai Khan Fleet • The Japanese spoke reverently of the Kamikaze or “divine wind” that saved Japan.

Marco Polo • Traveled by caravan on the silk road with his uncle and father to China. • Kublai sent him on various government missions. • Marco served the Great Khan for 17 years and returned home to Venice. • While in prison at home he told the stories of his Travels and a fellow prisoner gather those stories into book. It was an instant success in Europe.
