  33. RNG WG (cnt’d) Working Group Summary progress: Current status: PN Ranging White Issue 2 book revised Out of the 7 codes from previous issue, only 2 remain in present release, selected for two different regenerative ranging scenarios Discussion continues on two codes for transparent ranging Missing transparent simulation as well as hardware test results expected by July 2007 Future work/charter: Future work continues as per charter – 3 months delay needed due to delay with bread-boarding contract; Red book new due date October 2007 RNG WG charter updated (3 months’ delay) • SLS AREA REPORT

  34. SLS AREA REPORT • High Rate Uplink WG • Goal: • Address the high rate uplink requirements as requested by the IOAG. • Provide technical recommendations in the areas of RF&Modulation, Coding, and Link Layer protocols in support of the Lunar Exploration Missions and extension to deep space. • WG Status: Active X Idle ____ • WG Summary Situation: No definition of CCSDS HRU Requirements.

  35. SLS AREA REPORT • HRU WG (cnt’d) • WG Summary progress: • NASA presented HRU related “requirements” from Project Constellation. From a CCSDS perspective, these look more like solutions. • Fabrizio Pollara (NASA/JPL) provided an update (additional performance data) on the three uplink coding scenarios presented at the Rome meeting.

  36. SLS AREA REPORT • High Rate Uplink WG (cnt’d) • Problems and Issues: • Each Agency needs to present its mission scenarios associated with high rate uplinks • NASA claims it has these scenarios but cannot yet share them with other space agencies until management approval is given. • ESA will investigate whether preliminary scenarios are available from the AURORA programme. • A set of CCSDS high rate uplink related requirements has yet to be defined. • The deadline given to the WG of End of Year 2007 for a blue book is deemed very hard to achieve given these constraints.

  37. SLS AREA REPORT • High Rate Uplink WG (cnt’d) • Planning : • Action item on each participating agency: CNES, ESA, NASA, JAXA to circulate its mission scenarios concerning high rate uplink by April 2007 • Res9: IOAG to provide mission/systems requirements for High Rate Uplink more detailed than those available with IOAG Res 8.7.1.

  38. SLS AREA REPORT • SLS-LEC: Long Erasure Codes (‘tornado codes’) BOF (1 of 2) • Goal: Make, if conclusive, a proposal for the creation of a WG on application of long erasure-correction codes. • BOF Status : Active (extended till end of 2007) • BOF Summary Situation: • Working Group Summary progress: • NASA and ESA reports presented. Technical progress positive. • Future: see next slide

  39. SLS AREA REPORT • SLS-LEC: Long Erasure Codes (‘tornado codes’) BOF (2 of 2) • Working Group Summary progress: • Difficulties in having right perception by other Areas felt. This is an important issue since the implied coding solutions would penetrate also into higher layers data structures (e.g. post –pass recovery of “erased” frames or packets). Confirmed. • The targets below for better inter-area discussion shall be finalized in the Darmstadt meeting (October 2007): • Production of profiles addressing: • Scenario with limited number of erasures; • Scenario with High number of erasures; • Intermediate scenario. • Design, for the profiles above, of LEC solutions addressing both: • Approach at Frame level (i.e. constant length input data) • Approach at (Space/CFDP) Packet level (i.e. variable length input data).

  40. A PICS (Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement) was requested by the SIS area Mars BOF to be defined for the 3 books of Prox-1, as identified by the Mars BOF. SLS proposes that SLS-SLP WG adopts this task as an update to the charter. Lunar/Mars missions. New needs may not be covered by Prox-1. New needs are to be identified. Upgrade of Prox-1 (?), development of Prox-2 (?). Inter-areas coordination to be put in place with SIS (Cislunar WG, Mars BOF) and SOIS (Wireless BOF). Space Packet Protocol: part of SIS or SLS? • SLS AREA REPORT Cross-area technical issue
