Polycom Desktop Connector – PDCOverview Benefits • PDCgreatly improves user experience and efficiency • Keyboard: enter text using PC keyboard (all languages are supported: German, Chinese, Arabic…) • Mouse: easily navigate and select the phone menus using PC mouse (especially useful for VVX 1500 Web Browser) • Copy and Paste: Copy text from your PC to the phone menus Overview • Allows sharing of keyboard & mouse between user’s computer & Polycom device (VVX 500/1500) Polycom Desktop Connector Polycom device becomes an extension of your desktop PC

  14. Polycom Desktop ConnectorInstallation • PDC Client – phone • Part of software release (UC Software 4.0.0 or later) • By default enabled on the phone. Two levels of permissions: • apps.ucdesktop.adminEnabled = 1 (admin level enabled) • apps.ucdesktop.enabled = 1 (user level enabled) • PDC Server – user’s computer (PC) • Download the installer (PolycomDesktopConnector.msi) from: • http://www.polycom.com/products/voice/applications/index.html • Install PDC server on the PC (Windows XP, Vista or 7) • Additional steps may be required depending on the particular configuration: • Configure PC firewall not to block PDC server • Configure PC anti-virus software not to block PDC server

Polycom Desktop ConnectorConfiguration • Requires IP routing between voice and data VLANs • Two types of PC-to-phone connections: • Direct – the PC is connected to the phone through the phone’s PC port • Indirect – the PC and the phone are connected through a hub or a switch • Configuration options can be provisioned using: • web interface (Settings → Applications → PDC Client) • .cfg files • user menu

Polycom Desktop ConnectorConfiguration cont. • Direct connection • Phone automatically tries to connect to the PC after a reboot or once a network connection is detected. • User can manually initiate connection: • Unplug and plug the network cable form the PC port. • From menus: Main Menu → Settings → Basic → PDC configuration → press “Reconnect” soft button (no need to enter any parameter)

User ProfilesOverview • A unique profile which stores the user’s personal phone information (contact directory, speed dials, phone settings) onto the provisioning server • Users may access their profiles anywhere using any phone connected to the provisioning server. • Users may also log in on more than one phone at a time Provides greater flexibility for remote and mobile users and for deployments which have common phones

User.cfg → BobSmith.cfg • Add parameters for phone functionality (line registrations, features, etc…) in the loginName.cfg or MACaddress.cfg • Parameters set in the loginName.cfg have higher precedence than in the MACadddress.cfg

Multicast Group Paging & PTTOverview • PTT • Users can use one-way audio calls to collaborate with peers using both wireless and desktop phones • User must press and hold a soft-key (desktop) or dedicated hard-key (wireless) to invoke the calls Paging • Users can send one-way audible pages to one of multiple available groups of phones • The audio page is played over the receiving phones’ speaker No need for overhead loud speakers.Subscription based peer-to-peer signaling. Call server independent.
