  1. Well, I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with Mailman. After

  2. a bit of futzing around I was able to get it to work fine on two

  3. separate machines -- the Web interface on one, the internals on

  4. another.

  5. I have some questions though...

  6. o We round-robin through a half-dozen Web servers or so

  7. here. Does Mailman do any kind of locking to ensure

  8. that users connecting to separate Web servers won't munge

  9. each other's data? Or does it require a "dedicated"

  10. server?

  11. o Is it possible to turn off certain aspects of list

  12. administration? For example, I don't want listowners to be

  13. able to decide whether or not archiving is in place (we

  14. use MHonArc, so these menus would only confuse them). Nor do

  15. I want them to be able to change the base URL for Mailman,

  16. the hostname, or number of outgoing SMTP connections (although

  17. I realize that the later can be limited via mm_cfg.py).

  18. To disable the archiving screen I added a Rewrite to httpd.conf:

  19. RewriteRule ^/mailman/admin/([^\/]+)/archive /missing.cgi?$1

  20. But that's quite an ugly hack. I'd much rather be able to

  21. remove certain items from the screen entirely (i.e. there

  22. shouldn't be an archives link, an edit HTML link, etc).
