  2. Marriage • Gen. 2:21-24—God designed the marriage bond from the very beginning • Matt. 19:3-6; Mark 10:2-9—God is the one that joins man and woman together in marriage • Rom. 7:2-3—God’s law binds the marriage covenant as long as they both shall live

  3. Divorce • Mark 10:10-12—General rule against divorce and remarriage is applied to both men and women • Luke 16:18—General rule is applied to the 3rd party that marries a divorced person • Matt. 19:9; 5:32—General rule is stated with exception for sexual immorality

Divorce • Is Divorce Itself Sinful or Just Remarriage? • Mal. 2:16—God hates divorce • Matt. 19:3-6—We are not at liberty to separate what God has joined together • Matt. 5:32—The one who divorces is also guilty of causing their spouse to stumble • 1 Cor. 7:10-11—A wife is not to depart from her husband and a husband is not to divorce his wife

  5. Remarriage • Rom. 7:2-3—If your spouse has died you are released from the marriage covenant and free to remarry • Matt. 19:9—Whoever divorces his spouse for sexual immorality and marries another does not commit adultery • No one else is given authority to remarry in the Bible.

  6. Repentance • Rom. 7:2-3—The sin of adultery will continue as long as the first mate lives, unless the second marriage is dissolved • Mark 6:17-19—It was not lawful for Herod to have Herodias. Repentance required separation • Just as the thief must give back what he has stolen, the unlawfully divorced must stop living in adultery
