  2. Classroom Schedule This is what a typical day in our classroom looks like.

  4. Writing Focus on: writing process -prewrite, draft, revise, proofread, publish Staying on topic, details, and word choice • Personal narrative • Poetry • Informational Writing • Persuasive Writing • How-to writing

  5. Words Their Way--spelling • 25 word inventory to determine level • Weekly word list to match student’s need • NO WEEKLY TESTS— “check ups” instead—usually every 4 weeks • Focus on patterns of words, not memorization • Students will also be responsible for 100 Fry words (sight words)

  6. Math • Workshop Model • 10 Minute whole group lesson introduction • Flexible grouping, dependent upon performance on unit pretest • 3—20 minute rotations • Small group with teacher • Independent class activity • Workstation/game • Mrs. Lewis, our math coach will be co-teaching with me. • Parent Helpers welcomed during this hour

  9. Homework Homeworkopoly is a game each student will get to play IF they have completed their homework each night during that week. Please we our class website for more information. • Reading nightly—guided reading/free choice • Math nightly • Spelling—Monday & Wednesday • Writing- Thursday

Grading • 3,2,1 Scale • Grades come from assessments, classwork, observations, participation. • All math & reading assessments will be sent home—some writing pieces are kept in student portfolios. • All grades are available on eschoolbook…visit district webpage for more info. • New-Standards based report card • Contact me with questions-this is new to be as well

  11. PSSA • Math and reading- March 17-28th • Low stress • Benchmark testing 3 times a year to assure the students are prepared and to track the standards that need to be targeted.

School-Wide Positive BehaviorSupport Plan C- Calm Transitions A-Always do my best N- Nice words and honesty toward others D-Demonstrate respect for people and property O-Objects, hands and feet to yourself All students will start in ‘green’ for the day, one infraction moves the student to yellow and a second moves them to red

  13. Room 18 <3 volunteers • Mystery Readers—Fridays at noon—must have volunteer clearances • Math workshop • Cutting & copying • Spelling/basic math fact helper • Book talk group • Suggestions?—something special to share
