  2. Wellington • Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and is on the North Island . However it is not the largest of the cities in New Zealand it is Auckland. • People in New Zealand are known as Kiwis. • The population of Wellington is approx. 397, 900.

  3. Hamilton • The city covers an area of about 38 square miles. • It is home to 150,200 people making it New Zealand’s 4th most popular city.

  5. Sky Tower • The Sky Tower is the tallest man made structure in New Zealand at 328 metres. • You travel up in glass fronted lifts to the three spectacular viewing platforms. • The Sky Tower is Auckland’s only 360 degree revolving restaurant.

  6. Ernest Rutherford Ernest Rutherford was knighted in 1914. His large collection of medals were giving to Canterbury College. In 1992 his portrait was printed onto the New Zealand $100 banknote. He returned to New Zealand to marry Mary Newton ,the daughter of his former landlady. Ernest was a professor.

Jonah Lomu • Jonah Lomu is a former New Zealand rugby union player . • He had 63 caps as an All Black player. • He is regarded as the first true global superstar of rugby union . • He was inducted into the international rugby hall of fame on 9th October 2007. • Lomu burst onto the international rugby scene during the 1994 Hong Kong Sevens.

  8. Tuatara • Tuatara species lived along with the dinosaurs which was over 220 million years ago. • Tuataras live in burrows and love to eat birds eggs and could even eat their own babies.

  9. Kakapo • The kakapo is a large species of flightless nocturnal ground dwelling parrot. • The kakapo has finely blotched yellow –green plumage and a distinct facial disc of sensory feathers • It’s the worlds flightless parrot and the heaviest.

  10. Silver Fern • The silver fern has been New Zealand’s rugby team icon since the 1880s and is seen on their rugby shirts. • The silver fern is very rare and can only be found in New Zealand/Aotearoa. • There are 80 species of fern that can only be found in New Zealand.

  11. The Hei-tiki • The hei-tiki is an ornamental pendant worn round neck . • Hei-tiki are usually made of pounanu, which is green.
