  1. The Emmaus Road

  2. In the aftermath of the resurrection do we want to be a follower of Jesus?

  3. The Emmaus Road • What is God trying to change • How is he trying to change it • What does tomorrow look like

  4. Trying to change our hearts

  5. Jesus was clearly going to allow them to see him, but he was far more concerned that their hearts were opened before their eyes

  6. How is he changing it – through discipleship to Him

  7. "The Christian life is more than just finding Jesus; it is following Jesus” Mike Yaconelli

  8. “Our intention as apprentices of Jesus is to become the kind of person who lives in the character and power of Christ. We must, then, do those things that will enable us to become that kind of person, from the inside out—through appropriate actions and practices.” Dallas Willard

  9. “he had a feeling that a notable heresy has come into being throughout evangelical Christian circles – the widely accepted concept that we as humans can choose to accept Christ only because we need him as Saviour and that we have the right to postpone our obedience to him as Lord as long as we want to.” • AW Tozer

  10. “The abundance of God to our lives, our families, and our ministries, is not passively received or imposed and does not happen to us by chance. It is claimed and put into action by our active, intelligent pursuit of it. We must seek out ways to live and act in union within the flow of God’s kingdom life that should come through our relationship with Jesus. Dallas Willard

  11. You see it is not as though training in and of itself will make us the people we are designed to be – but it will put us in a place where we can be open and receptive to the work of the Spirit in our life…this is disciplining ourselves so God can do what he needs to do

  12. How does it look in practice

  13. because I accept him as Lord, his instructions on behaviour are my treasures for living life. Of course I cannot do what he said by just trying. I must train!

  14. Disciplines are, in essence, activities in our power that enable us, by grace, to do what we cannot do by direct effort—by “just trying.” Dallas Willard
