  2. Employment Opportunities 1960 America A Raisin in the Sun • African Americans faced large amounts of employment discrimination • People refused to hire black Americans • Those who had jobs, such as police or bus driver, were only allowed positions in their own communities

  3. Segregated Housing 1960 America A Raisin in the Sun • Early 1900 African Americans were scattered into white neighborhoods. • Projects such as urban renewal policies began making them segregated • As African Americans came into the cities, whites began to flee to the suburbs

My Ethnic Background • Mostly Italian • Irish • My family doesn’t have any cultural traditions • doesn’t change my view on identity because its not a big deal for me. • The novel’s theme is that you should have pride in your culture and who you are • I don’t define myself by my ethnic background • Im not judged by it like in the book

  5. Personal Dreams and Goals • Going to a good college • Getting a good job • Living in New York • Being happy and worry free
