  1. Fiqh of Fasting-8 The Ultimate Shield Prepared by: Hacene Chebbani

  2. Rulings of Ayah 187 • It has been made permissible for you the night preceding fasting to have a relationship with your wives. • Eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night]. It means continue eating until Fajr time. • Do not have relations with your wives if you are doing I’tikaaf in the Masjid. • Final note: Have taqwa and watch for the limits of Allah.

  3. The Last 10 Days of Ramadan • The nights of these 10 days are the best in the whole year. • They contain laytul-qadr which is better than one thousand months. • Hadith: “When the last ten days of Ramadan started, he (salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam) would tighten his waist-belt, spend the nights in prayer and wake his family. [to serve Allah].” (B/M)

  4. Recommended Acts of Ibadah in the Lat 10 Days • Doing I’tikaf in the last ten days is highly recommended. I’tikaf means to confine yourself in a Masjid for prayers and invocations leaving the worldly activities. • It is recommended to strive hard to perform good deeds during the last ten days of Ramadan.

  5. Continued • It is recommended to stand in prayer during the nights which lailatul-Qadr could fall on them. Hadith: “Whoever spent the night of lailatul-Qadr in prayer, with sincere faith and in the hope of Allah’s reward, will have all his previous sins forgiven.” (B/M)

  6. Best Supplication this Night • Hadith of Aisha (radia Allahu Anha): “O, Messenger of Allah! What should I say if I know which night is lailatul-Qadr?” He (salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Say: اللّهم إنّك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عنّي“ (O, Allah! You are Forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me)”. (Tirmithi/Ibn Majah)

  7. When is Lailatul-Qadr? • Hadith: “Seek Lailatul-Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan.” (B/M) • The reason this night is hidden is to encourage the Muslim to strive hard in worship, making du’aa’ and dhikr during all the last ten nights of Ramadan. • There is some emphasis on the night of 27th because of some hadiths about it, however there is plenty of evidence that lailatul-Qadr could fall on a different night during the last ten days.

  8. What are the signs of laitul-Qadr? • The sun rises on the following morning with no visible rays. (M) • Its weather won’t be warm, nor it is cold. It will be with an average temperature. • The number of angels on earth that night will be more than the number of stones and pebbles. • It is shiny and bright.
