Inour18yearsofservice toindustries, wehavecomeacrossmany abnormalities, incidentandhaveresolved them. Evenwelearnwhilesolvingthe issuesorTrippingincidentsbutsummation ofthesemanyyearsofexperiencehas strengthenustoresolvethistypeof incidentsintime. However, thisisthefirst timewecameacrossthiskindofissue. ThenweaskedRarecheck. Tochange thephasesequenceofIncomingVoltage supplyinrelayforallthecombinations asRYB, RBY, YRB, YBR, BYR, BRY. Tooursurprise!!!!! WithcombinationRBY, relaycontactgotresetandplantwas started. Wealsoaskedthemtocheckwithother plantconnectedtoGRIDwithsame feedersandfound: TheirMotorswererunninginReverse directionandsamehasleadstocertain issuesrelatedtoprocess. Adding additionaldowntime. Samewasissuewithotherplantsas well. Onalighternote, toourknowledge, mostof theabnormalities, Trippingoroperational problemsinIndustrieshappensonSunday orHolidaysonly. Keepinglegacyalive, this alsooccurredonSundayevening4PMin themonthofFeb2019. Theproblemwasidentifiedaschangein PhasesequencemistakenlybyGRIDside duringshutdown. Weadvisedplantpeople tokeeptheoriginalwiringsothatifthis happensagaininfuturethansamecanbe identifyandrectify. Here under is the summary: ItwasplannedshutdownfromGridside foraddingnew33kVdistributionlineto theirsubstation. Samewasinformedto alltheconsumers2weeksinadvance forthisshutdownwhichwasscheduled for2-3hoursincontinuation. Well, wegottheirappreciationasSystem ProtectionhasbeeninvolvedinSelection andRetrofittingofrelays. Iftheplanthas beenstartedwithreversedirectionmore revenuelosswouldhaveregistered. Allgoeswellasperschedule, Power resumedwithin2.5hoursbut…………. ConnectedIndustriesfailedtostart. Reason….? UnhealthyVoltage. Andrelay blockedCircuitbreakerstoclose pertainingtoUnhealthyVoltage. Proper Relay Selection for Equipment’s play a key role in Protecting your plant equipment in the best way. TherelaysensedthePhaseReversalas unhealthyvoltageandtherefore, wasgiving trippingcommands. Underpressure, maintenanceengineerBypassed Undervoltageprotectionandchargedthe panelashewasconcernedabout productionlost. ButwhenRelayisatfault youcan'tevenchangeordisablesetting, andthisisblessingindisguise. Then started troubleshooting: TheycheckedPTsupply, foundhealthy. Ifduringshutdown, anymodification/s ORChange/smadeinthewiring? No, everythingwasasitwas. Theytookallpossiblemeasures, but waste. Relaykeepissuingtripping command. OurteamduringannualRelaytestingin shutdown (July2018), suggestedand enabledthissetting. Worried about the incident, we got distressed call from user: Wefeelsorryfortheotherindustrieswho sufferedduetoimproperrelayselection. Damagehasalreadyoccurred. Toavoidthis westronglyrecommend, whileselecting protectiverelayseitherinProjectsor retrofitting, allthepointsmustbe consideredpertainingtoprotectionand processperspective. Weenquiredwiththemandasked whetherallnecessarymeasureshave beentaken. Weaskedthemtocheckinrelay configuration, butnotnecessarilyplant peopleknowsit.
