  4. Seminars • Our seminars have live audio-you will be able to hear me! Students will use the message area to type in questions and comments. • Seminar schedule • 10 minutes for Q&A • 40 minutes of topics and lecture • 10 minutes for more Q&A, wrap up, and crime scene photos • We use the entire hour!

  5. Seminars • Can’t make it? Alternate Assignment-Click on the Seminar link in the unit. • 300 – 500 word essay discussing any topic covered during the seminar or from your assigned reading that week • Submit through “Doc Sharing”

What can my degree do for me? • The average holder of a bachelor's degree earns about $51,000 a year • Those who go on to earn MBAs, law degrees, or other professional degrees earn about $100,000 a year • The quality of the jobs college graduates get is far better, for example. College graduates are more likely to get jobs with health insurance. And it is easier for them to find and hold jobs • College graduates are healthier, contribute more to their communities, and raise kids who are better prepared academically

  10. Discussion Questions • Beginning in Unit 2, you will have discussion questions to answer. • A total of TWO posts are required to satisfy the requirements: One MAIN POST, one response to a classmate • One of your posts submitted by midnight Saturday of each unit

  11. Writing Assignment: What is your ideal career? • Watch the video about the different careers in law enforcement • 1-2 pages covering the following: • Already have a clear career goal? What makes it so attractive to you? • What made you interested in criminal justice in the first place?

  12. Writing Assignment Continued.. • In what kind of environment would you want to work? • What opportunities will open to you as a result of a college education? • Saved as a Microsoft WORD document and submitted to the Dropbox before the end of the unit.

What will we do in unit 2? • Make sure that you have completed unit one before we move on to unit 2. • In unit 2, we will begin our weekly discussion board! • We will discuss your final class project next week! • You will read chapter 3 in Cornerstone and take a short quiz based on the reading.

Interview Project Instructions • Provide your instructor with the following: • The name of the person who is your first choice to interview as well as one alternate, • Occupation, title, and place of employment for candidates, • A list of ten questions you would like to ask interviewee, and • A brief explanation of what you hope to learn from the interview

  15. Who Qualifies as a Candidate for the Unit 4 Interview Project Proposal? • Police officers Correctional Officers • Deputy Sheriffs State Police • Federal Agents Military Police • Probation/Parole Officers • State Attorneys/Prosecutors • Judges

  16. Who Does Not Qualify for the Assignment? • Security Officers • Private/Defense Attorneys • College Instructors who teach Criminal Justice only (no practical experience) • Victims Advocates • Counselors working in the field
