  3. The Challenges • Establishing the new Diocese at the Appointed Day as legal, viable and operational. • Designing the new Diocese, so that it maximises the opportunities for Mission • “Business as Usual” up to and after the Appointed Day

  4. Appointed Day – What happens • 3 Dioceses are dissolved; new Diocese of Leeds/WY&D • The 5 new Archdeaconry Areas come into effect. Parishes transfer deaneries, archdeaconries or dioceses • ABY nominates: • Acting Diocesan Bishop • Who will act as Area Bishops for the new Areas (+Knaresborough/Ripon; +Pontefract/Wakefield) • Acting Chancellor and Registrar • Acting Diocesan Secretary and Director of Education • Transitional Boards/Committees • Finance, Education, MandP, DAC, Patronage • 3 Offices remain as they are – minimum change – to ensure routine support to Parishes

WORKSTREAMS TO THE APPOINTED DAY Jly/Aug Sept Oct Feb May Nov Dec Jan Mar Apr Jun July Appointed Day Easter 2014 Inauguration Pentecost 8 June Bishop and Bishop’s Staff Input to ABY on Transitional Appointments and Appointed Day Instrument, as required Suffragan Bishops and Archdeacon responsibilities at Appointed Day and afterwards Impact of Appointed Day on Parishes transferring, and Deaneries Impact on Cathedrals assessed and any changes needed planned Planning for Celebrations of the Past, Inauguration and Enthronement Ways of working for new Bishops Council and Senior Staffs post Appointed Day agreed People HR aspects; management of displaced personnel, consultation and transfer of employment contracts. Communications during the run up to the Appointed Day Accommodation implications for affected clergy Administration Management arrangements and Ways of Working in Diocesan Offices Creation of the new Board of Finance and associated Company Transfer of assets and liabilities at the Appointed Day Operation financial management changes Transitional committees and boards arrangements determined and approved by Dioceses Commission Liaison with Church House Staff

Key areas affecting Staff • Looking at every aspect of how we work • Can we continue in the same way as before, at least for 2014? • If not, why not? • What alternative must be adopted? • Led by one of: • Programme Director • Diocesan Secretaries • Diocesan Leads (+James, +Tony, Paul Slater) • Adjustments to the management structure and accountabilities to reflect • 3 separate offices, all part of the same Diocese • DS and Chief Officers overseeing all work of the 3 offices
