Goals of this draft • If the flow is classified by home network prefix, to support flow mobility between different interfaces • To enable PMIPv6 to support both inter-technology handoff and simultaneous access at the same time • Propose a hybrid home network prefix assignment scheme • Separate prefix for the purpose of inter-technology handoff and the purpose of simultaneous access • During flow mobility, some flow (prefix) is moved to another interface and some flow (prefix) is remained

Motivation • In basic PMIPv6 (RFC 5213) • PMIPv6 basically supports multihoming • MN can connect to a PMIPv6 domain through multiple interfaces • But, • During inter-technology handoff, it does not support simultaneous access • Since all the home network prefixes associated with one interface are associated with another interface of a MN • If we assume that the flow is classified by home network prefix, then it cannot support flow mobility • Since flow mobility requires moving just some home network prefixes between interfaces

Problems of PMIPv6 • During inter-technology handoff • The existing flows with the second interface may be disrupted • Compelled handoff of unwanted IP flows can be performed • MAG does not have sufficient information to set the handoff indicator flag • There is no way to add or delete a new home network prefix

Usage on a logical interface • Two cases : • If one application uses dynamic prefixes at the starting time of comm., the session continuity through inter-technology handoff is supported. • If the typical application uses static prefixes at the starting time of comm., inter-technology handoff is not supported. • But, it is possible if the logical interface supports the change of network interface and also the change of home network prefix (only one HNP is shown to IP host stack),

Next Step? • In basic PMIPv6 spec., per-MN prefix model is default and flow may be classified by home network prefix • For flow mobility by keeping the above facts, home network prefix may be separated into two categories • for simultaneous access • for inter-technology handoff • Is there interest in WG?
