  2. Defining the Problem • The community college transfer student who seeks the bachelor’s degree but fails, negatively affects many: • Self • Family • Community college • Four year college • Society • World Speaker: Umar Bhatti

  3. Explaining the Goal • What would cause the community college transfer student to fail? • We brainstormed for these possible factors. • We came up with 8 hypotheses and formed 8 research teams. Speaker: Shabia Fatima

Take a Study Skills course Homesickness: Be more socially integrated; Join clubs 1st Generation college student: Finding your own personal support system; ask family friend who went to college Lack of determination etc: Have someone push and encourage you; Keep your eyes on the prize Tuition: Apply for scholarships; contact state legislatures to increase state and federal tuition monies Partying & Abusing drugs: Stay away from groups that abuse alcohol and drugs; Stronger institutional regulations. Stronger state laws. Ethnic, racial, gender, or religious differences: Don’t ignore the issues; Workshops for discussions Physical & mental health: Join services and programs What are our solutions?
