  2. Crimes against a person notes • Homicide: the killing of one human being by another • Malice: having the intent to kill or seriously harm or acting extremely recklessly that can cause harm to others. • First- degree murder: a killing that is premeditated(thought about beforehand)

  3. Felony murder: any killing that takes place during the commission of certain felonies, such as arson, rape, or robbery. • Second- degree murder: is a killing that is done with malice but not premeditation. • Voluntary manslaughter: is a killing that would otherwise be murder, but that occurs after the victim has done something to the killer that would cause a reasonable person to lose self control.

Involuntary manslaughter: is an unintentional killing resulting from reckless conduct that could cause bodily harm. • Negligent homicide: is the causing of death through criminal negligence (the failure to exercise a reasonable or ordinary amount of care in a situation that could cause harm to others)

Crime against a person notes • Suicide: the deliberate taking of one’s own life. • Assault: any attempt or threat to carry out a physical attack upon another person. • Battery: any unlawful physical contact inflicted by one person upon another person without consent. • Stalking: occurs when a person repeatedly follows or harasses another person and makes threats, causing the victim to fear death or harm.

  7. Rape: an act of unlawful sexual intercourse committed with out a person consent. • Statutory rape: is sexual intercourse with a person who has not yet reached the age of consent (in most states that is 18) • Date rape: sexual assault by someone known by the victim (boyfriend, friend, husband etc.)
