  1. The Evaluation of Cardiometabolic Risk in the offsprings of the type 2 diabetic patients Ankara Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Endokrinoloji ve Metabolizma Hastalıkları Kliniği Dr.Yavuz Selim Demir

  2. Aim ----------------------------------------------------------- To determine the incidence of cardiometabolic risk factors such as obesity , glucose intolerance , hypertension , hyperlipidemia ,elevated PAI-1 and CRP in the offsprings of type 2 diabetics.

  3. Methods • ------------------------------------------------------------------- • 40 subjects between ages 20 - 65 , without known cardiovascular disease which were offspring of a diabetic parent were included. • OGTT was performed on all subjects and classified according to • ADA critera . (IGT, IFG , DM , NGT) • Subjects with diagnosed cardiovascular disease and \ or glucose intolerance were excluded from the study. • Weight ,waist circumference ,body mass index (BMI) , fasting and postprandial glucose , insulin , lipid profile , systolic and diastolic blood pressure , PAI-1 and h-CRP levels were evaluated.

  4. * Compared to NGT p<0.05 ** Compared toNGT ve IFG p<0.05 *** Compared toNGT ve IGT p<0.05 **** Compared toIGT ve IFGp<0.05

  5. Discussion Glucose metabolism disorder (IFG+IGT+DM) was diagnosed in 67.5 % of the subjects with diabetic parent(s) PAI -1 levels were higher in IFG,IGT ve DM groups compared to NGT group Cardiometabolic risk increased in subjects with glucose tolerance from IFG <IGT<DM.

  6. JEAN-CLAUDE N. MBANYA et al. • 23% glucose metabolism disorder (DM,IGT) was diagnosed in • 69 offsprings of diabetic patients. • Diabetes Care 23:1761–1765, 2000 • GURLEK A et al. • Normal glucose tolerant offsprings of type 2 diabetic subjects • have elevated PAI-1 activity/The elevated PAI-1 activity has no association • with plasma insulin concentration. • Diabetes Care.2000 Jul 23 1035-7 • .

  7. CONCLUSION • Offsprings of diabetic patients are also at risk for cardiometabolic risk. • As soon as the parent is diagnosed offsprings of type 2 diabetic patients should be followed and evaluated forglucose intolerance and cardiometabolic risk
