Revisions to Chapter 2E – Guide Signs for Freeways and Expressways

This revision to Chapter 2E introduces new requirements and additions for guide signs on freeways and expressways. It includes updates to sign sizes, arrow placement, signing of option lanes, overhead arrow-per-lane signs, exit numbering, toll road signs, preferential and managed lane signs, general information signs, and more.

  7. New Overhead Arrow-per-Lane signs for option-lane exits and splits feature an upward-pointing arrow over each lane

  8. Overhead Arrow-per-Laneguide signs • Required at new or reconstructed option lane locations (major interchanges, splits) • Provision for conversion from diagrammatic (interim gore sign location)

  9. Freeway and expressway diagrammatic signs • Existing concept retained • Limited to locations with an option lane • Limited to existing facilities only

  11. For lane drops without an option lane, an EXIT ONLY panel with a down arrow(s) is now required on all overhead advance guide signs

  12. For lane drops without anoption lane, the Exit Direction sign shall have an EXIT ONLY panel with an upward diagonal arrow
