  19. Background 1: Restate your thesis It seems redundant but keep reminding your reader what it is that you are trying to say; but you have said a lot in your essay- remind them yet again what YOUR argument is.

  20. Background 2: Review your main points Go over a few of your most poignant points. Refresh your reader’s mind and remind your reader of the great arguments you have just made.

  21. Background 3: Summarize your main points Briefly give your audience your bigger picture. One sentence will suffice here. Establish the connection to the human interest aspect of your argument. Make sure your audience will be able to FEEL what you have just said. Force the reader to feel a connection to your argument.

  22. Final Clincher Statement: Call to Action What is it that you want your audience to feel, do or change? Don’t ask or question the audience: tell them how to feel, create or spread change.
