  1. Suzanne Porter, Social Worker: The Benefits of Wilderness Training

  2. Suzanne Porter, a professional Social Worker, loves to travel and spend time outdoors. Between 1997 and 1999, she lived in Boston, Massachusetts and worked with a program that specialized in dialectical behavior therapy.

  3. During that time, she organized and launched a wilderness training program for women as well. “We went on a five-day trip in Vermont where we made masks and participated in therapeutic Native American rituals,” says Suzy Porter. She loves to spend time outdoors. She enjoyed teaching others how to survive in the wilderness.

  4. Wilderness training can be highly beneficial for individuals who enjoy hiking and camping. A trip into the wilderness could be a great way to relax and spend time with nature. However, accidents can happen. It can be helpful for people to know what to do during a storm, or if they get lost.

  5. Wilderness training can include learning about edible plants and how to identify different animal tracks. A good trainer may teach his or her pupils how to find shelter during an emergency situation and how to navigate through the woods. Wilderness training could be a great way to boost confidence, especially in women and troubled adolescents. Suzanne Porter works as a Social Worker and has experience in wilderness training.
