  1. Jesus Is Wonderful – Part 3 – Eternal Father

  2. Isaiah and Jesus • Immanuel (7:14) • Child of Promise (9:1-7) • Stock of Jesse (11:1-10) • Foundation Stone (28:16) • Servant of the Lord (42:1; 53:1-12) • Preacher of Good Tidings (61:1-2)

  3. What’s In A Name? • Names today do not foretell who a person will be or what he will do • Names in Bible times meant something with regard to a person’s character or role in life • Eve – the mother of all living • Abraham – the father of a multitude • Jesus – save his people from their sins

  4. Isaiah 9:6 • Wonderful Counselor: he takes care of the decisions in my life • Mighty God: he takes care of the demands in my life • Everlasting Father: he takes care of the desires in my life • Prince of Peace: he takes care of the disturbances in my life

  5. Eternal • Eternality is hard for the human mind to comprehend • Jesus has no beginning or end (Jn. 8:58; Rev. 22:12) • John records how Jesus entered time in order to give us eternal life (Jn. 3:16, 36; 4:14, 36; 5:24; 6:27, 40, 47, 54, 68; 10:28; 12:25, 50; 17:2-3; 1 Jn. 1:2; 2:25; 5:11, 13, 20)

  6. Eternal • Man is made for eternity (Eccl. 3:11) • Some do not care about the after-life (1 Cor. 15:32-33) • The most important question: What must I do? (Mt. 19:16, 29)

  7. Eternal • Believe (Acts 13:46, 48; 1 Tim. 1:16), well-doing (Rom. 2:7), be in Christ (Rom. 5:21; 6:23; Eph. 3:11; 2 Tim. 1:9; 1 Pet. 5:10), sanctification (Rom. 6:22), bear fruit (Gal. 6:8), fight (1 Tim. 6:12), grow (2 Pet. 1:11), no hate (1 Jn. 3:15), and the Lord’s mercy (Jude 21) • We live in hope of eternal life (Tit. 1:2; 3:7); the promise of an eternal inheritance (Heb. 9:15)

  8. Father • “Father” is used here in the Jewish sense of source; originator; author (Jn. 8:44; Rom. 4:16) • Jesus is the source, originator, and author of creation (Heb. 1:1-3) • Jesus is the source, originator, and author of salvation (Heb. 5:9; 9:12)

  9. Jesus: Eternal Father • We have a choice when we face eternal judgment (Heb. 6:2): everlasting life in heaven (Mt. 25:46; 2 Cor. 4:17-18; 5:1) or everlasting punishment in hell (Mt. 25:46; 2 Thess. 1:9; Jude 7) • Will you let Jesus be the author of your salvation (Heb. 5:9)
