  1. Electronic Shelf Labels Can Change the Pricing Pattern

  2. The days of paper price ticketing are come to with Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) technology gaining acceptance and energy in the retail industry. Traditional paper based pricing requires updates to be sent to each store and then depend on staff printing and precisely placing labels in a timely fashion. This means that response to price changes or wits from head office have a minimum 24 hour turn around and a degree of inaccuracy across a network of stores.Retailers now have the capability to enthusiastically update prices across their network at the touch of a button with 100% accuracy. ESL (Electronic Shelf Labels) technology has moved into a new period with simple, low-cost, low touch Radio Frequency (RF) communication technology.

  3. ESLs now offers retailers with a humble and cost effective method of updating pricing on the shelf edge. Prices programmed into the Head Office or store’s POS system are able to be sent to an RF communication device which then sends a message to the electronic shelf labelsand promptly updates the price display. In turn an obedience reports are then sent back to the POS system to confirm all prices have been achieved. Enhancements in functionality and label formats such as the use of epaper and segmented dot matrix now offer value back to retailers on many fronts. Outlying from just displaying price and reducing labor and printing costs involved in price changes, ESLs have the ability to increase shopper inspiration at the point-of-purchase, allow retailers to implement dynamic pricing strategies focused on margin maximization, implement time-of-day pricing activities and be competitive and active in a highly fickle market.

  4. There are two different kinds of labels that are available that suit the different requirements in a retail set-up. 1- Segmented Dot Matrix (SDM) 2- Electronic-point-of-purchase (EPOPs) Segmented Dot Matrix- The SDM range of labels are able to store 31 different packets of information, display unit pricing as well as have text chain, scroll or flash on the top line. They are able to add value to a retailer not only through automatic price changes but also being able to capture, store and display different types of data from the store POS system that increase the productivities in retail operations.

  5. Electronic-point-of-purchase- This labels are the latest in electronic shelf labelling technology invention. In a highly competitive retail environment being able to clutch a shopper’s attention at the point of purchase is a key element to sales success for a retailer. With 70% of purchase decisions made at the shelf edge, epaper electronic shelf labels have been designed with this specifically in mind. EPOPs (Electronic-point-of-purchase) capability is to display and automatically update images signifies great value to retailers allowing dynamic cross-selling of other products, advertising specials and branding in greater detail than ever before. The image display abilities also open up opportunities for retailers to increase incremental revenue or gains from on-selling advertising or branding space to suppliers so they can communicate directly to their target markets.

  6. With the availability of the SDM and EPOP electronic shelf labels coupled with the prompt communication ability of the Bounce Communicator RF platform the pricing model now seems set to shift. Retail pricing is at the head to move into a new era where the dynamic abilities of the systems and the labels can be combined with marketing of specials, promotions and price promises. Electronic shelf labels now reduce operating costs for retailers to reinvest in improved customer service and better selling.
