Supervisor Academy Can Train Your Trainers

If you have a business with a number of staff, it very quickly gets to a point where you cannot manage them all on a day to day basis on your own. You need to appoint managers and supervisors. However, in order to obtain the best results, those managers and supervisors need training in the skills needed to become effective managers and leaders rather than just a boss.

  1. Supervisor Academy Can Train Your Trainers If you have a business with a number of staff, it follows that if you are the CEO you can’t manage them all directly yourself. When you only have a small factory or office and a half dozen staff you may be able to do that, but it comes at a cost. But when your business has grown and you have 50, 100, or even 1,000 staff, overseeing their work on a day to day basis becomes impossible. It is not very long before you start to need supervisors and managers to keep your teams working in the way that they should and ensure that they are making a valuable contribution to your business. Take that from one who owns several businesses and works with hundreds of supervisors and managers each year to improve performance. Even in the early stages of a business, the owners soon find they become a bottleneck to business expansion having to juggle operational work and responsibilities with the challenge of improving how the business performs and strategic work that helps the business expand. Years ago, in one of our start-up businesses with half a dozen workers and an exploding customer base, we recruited a new office manager so she could keep our backs free while yours truly attended the sales and process development side of the business. There are only so many hours in a working day. Of course, we promoted from within, someone who had done a great job on the operational side of the business. What we didn’t think about then then, but I wish we had was this: we simply assumed that, as she knew the jobs that needed to be done, she could take care of the growing team. Certainly, she did her best and it all worked out in the end. But looking back I realise that

  2. things could have run a lot smoother if she had been trained as a manager instead of simply being appointed as one and told to get on with it! It would have been much easier on her and on us! This is why new supervisor training is so important in any business and why companies such as Supervisor Academy produce such successful results. By training supervisors and managers in the skills that are required to be a leader, the company ensures that they become just that – great leaders that deliver outstanding results. A big part of being a great leader is developing a new ‘way with people’. Becoming someone the team follows because they have respect for and who will do their utmost as a result, rather than simply being told what to do by a “boss”. There is a whole world of difference between the two.
