SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF OIL FROM SEEDS https://sunright.in/
SOLVENT OIL EXTRACTION Sunflower oil is a vegetable oil, derived from the seeds of sunflowers. More than half of these seeds consist of fats. In many countries, sunflower seeds are eaten raw as a snack or in salads, but they can also be pressed into sunflower oil. Solvent oil extraction is a method of making edible oil by using the principle of extraction and selecting a kind of organic solvent which can dissolve oil and grease, through contacting with the oil (soaking or spraying), so that the oil and grease in the oil can be extracted. Solvent Extraction is the process of diffusing a solvent through to the oil source which results in the formation of a solution consisting of oil in the solvent. In large industries, Pressing may precede the process of Solvent Extraction. https://sunright.in/
SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF OIL FROM SEEDS Oil is an important part of our food and there is always a great need for it. With our world so heavily dependent on Oil for meeting its food needs, Oil extraction and refining is an important process in today’s industry. Generally we source oil from oilseeds like Soybean and Rapeseed. They may also be found in vegetables and nuts. There are many solvents available for this process. But the most widely used, and most widely accepted, is Hexane. This is because of its physical properties and edibility of products of Hexane-based Solvent Extraction. The other notable solvents which are sometimes used in industries are Alcohol-water mixture, Butane, Isohexane, Heptane, and a few others. https://sunright.in/
APPLICABLE RAW MATERIALS At present, the international common practice is: vegetable oils with high oil content (such as peanuts and rapeseed, sunflower seeds, cottonseeds, etc.) are usually produced by pre-pressing and solvent extraction technology; vegetable oils with low oil content (such as soybeans) are usually produced by direct extraction. In order to make full use of oil resources and improve economic benefits, oil cakes after pressing should generally continue to be extracted to produce cooking oil. https://sunright.in/
SOLVENT OIL EXTRACTION BASIC PROCESS The basic process is to immerse oil flakes (or pre-pressed cakes) in selected solvents, dissolve oil in solvents (composing mixed oil), then separate the mixed oil from solid residues (meal), evaporate and strip the mixed oil according to different boiling points, so that the solvent vaporizes into vapour and oil separates, thus obtaining oil (extracted crude oil). The solvent vapour is recycled after condensation and cooling. The meal also contains a certain amount of solvent. After desolution and drying, the meal can be dried. The solvent vapours volatilized during desolution and drying is still recovered by condensation and cooling. https://sunright.in/
FACTORS AFFECTING SOLVENT EXTRACTION Water Content in Seed: Diffusion of solvent into the seeds is reduced if there is a high content of water in the seeds. Just a right amount of moisture is all that is needed. Temperature: Higher temperatures facilitate better extraction. Solvent Quantity: A high miscella concentration means less energy is required for the removing of solvent from the oil. Shape of Seed: The shape of seed should be such that it allows flexible movement of solvent in the seed. Keeping these factors in mind, solvent oil extraction process can be best used for extracting oil from source materials. The de-oiled seed doesn’t have much value on its own after this process and must be further processes before use. https://sunright.in/
