  1. Foods That You Should Avoid Giving Your Kids in Winters Winter is almost here and this is the time when kids fall sick more than usual. In winter they are more vulnerable to illnesses like sore throat, common cold, flu, pneumonia, upset stomach, ear infection, skin problems, asthma, etc. This festive season, make sure your kids stay healthy and strong; so that you together with friends and family can enjoy the festivals. To help kids stay healthy you need to focus on their regular diet and it is important to feed your kids the right food in the right quantity. Besides eating properly, drinking enough water and sound sleep is also needed for kids to stay well.

  2. To help you with this, here Child Care experts have shared a list of 5 foods that you should not feed your kids in winter. Meat –It would be great if you can avoid feeding your kids meats during winters as it may cause throat problems. Meat is a protein-rich food that can lead to the production of mucus. Kids may feel irritation in their throat if there is mucus and this can lead to many other health problems. So, to be on the safer side for a few months you can replace meat with fish or any other protein-rich food.

  3. Sugary foods –Simple sugar or sugar-rich foods are not healthy for kids especially during the winter season. Too much sugar intake may reduce the white blood cell count in children’s body and this would make them more vulnerable to catching cough and cold or any other bacterial infections. So, sodas, chemical beverages, candies, chocolate, cold drinks, and other processed foods you should avoid offering your kids. Histamine-rich foods – Histamine is a type of chemical that is known to help the body fight against allergies. According to the pediatricians of Hacienda Heights CA, in winter, kids should not be consumed foods that are rich in histamine as this can also induce mucus production. Mucus can lead to throat problems and kids may face problems in swallowing foods. Some histamine-rich foods are tomatoes, avocado, eggplant, mayonnaise, mushrooms, vinegar, buttermilk, pickles, etc.

  4. Dairy products –In winter, you should also avoid giving dairy products to your kids. Try to skip the cheese, cream, chocolates, etc as these products again may cause mucus problems. Moreover, these products contain animal proteins which can lead to congestion during the cold months.  Salty and oily foods – These types of foods can thicken the mucus and saliva in winter. So, it is better to avoid these foods during the winter months. But if your kids insist on eating some oily foods like french fries, you can use vegetable oil instead of animal oil.

  5. Winter is the holiday time and everyone wants to enjoy the time to the fullest instead of being sick. Child Care experts suggest parents take some extra measures to make sure their little ones are absolutely fine and healthy during this time and enjoy the festivity. So, please try to avoid giving these foods to your kids during winter and replace them with some healthy options like soups, sweet potato roast, nuts, etc.
