  4. Independent Living • These communities are best for those seniors who are active and capable of living a healthy life without assistance. People who live in these communities will have access to communal activities, chapels and special events. • Independent Living communities may consist of one or two bedroom, well equipped kitchens, appliances and all other required amenities. • Other facilities such as a library, workout room and 24/7 emergency assistance are also available.

  5. Assisted Living • The amenities provided in assisted living are the same as that of independent living. But, they offer assistance to people who have difficulty in performing their daily activities such as serving meals, bathing, dressing, grooming and dispensing medication.

  6. Continuing Care Retirement Communities • Continuing Care Retirement Communities or CCRC offer complete facilities such as independent living, assisted living and expert nursing care, all under a single roof. • One needs to be at least 62 years of age to opt for a Continuing Care Retirement Community. • Dispensing medication.

  7. Memory Care • This type of community is best suited for seniors who suffer from dementia. It provides social activities, recreational and fitness activities. • Memory care facilities assist seniors with all levels of dementia.

  8. Nursing Homes and Skilled Nursing Facilities • Nursing Homes, and skilled nursing facilities usually referred to as nursing homes, offer 24/7 nursing care to all those who need more intensive care than the care provided in assisted living facilities.

  9. Active Adult Communities • There are wide array of active adult communities that include single-family homes, town homes, cluster homes, etc. These communities can either be age-restricted or age-targeted. • In case of age-restricted or 45+ communities, there should be at least one resident of a certain age. • Multiple types of activities are offered such as Golf, Swimming, Dancing, aerobics or yoga.
