Dark fibres • Connect every PoP of CESNET2(3) gigabit network, distances up to 300 km • Double access to PoPs – restoration, no single point of failure • Access to CzechLight center in Praha (and other cities in the future) • GE and SDH/SONET
Dark fibres • HW used • Cisco routers and switches • Keopsys optical amplifiers • Nbase-Xyplex convertors (SM-MM, to one fiber, lambdas) • Information about HW & DF in your networks?
CzechLight • Participation in international project StarLight, NetherLight, now CzechLight • „lambda service“ with Cisco ONS 15454 • 2.5 G lambda to Amsterdam • Operational since January 2003 • Access to Amsterdam, Geneva, Chicago • TDM box, high-end router is needed
10 Gigabit Ethernet • Negotiation of contract for HW • Catalyst 6503 with ER modules (1550 nm) • Optical amplifiers, fiber test-beds prepared • First 10 GE backbone line is operated by PASNET (metropolitan acadamic network) • 1310 LR modules, 1 fibre transmission, passive splitters, length 6 km
10 Gigabit Ethernet • Similar scenarios as with testing 1 GE (NIL) • Some results (1GE) published on Terena 2002 • More detailed paper on Terena 2003 • Simulating SW – problems with parameters of lasers used in „standart“ equipment (central wavelength, chirp, stability) • DWDM lasers preferred for long-distance transmissions
10 Gigabit Ethernet • In my opinion, we can go over 40 km • Again, our goal is Nothing-In-Line solution
