Cooperative Agreement • Typically provides agreement for disaster services between individual AmeriCorps programs and the Corporation for National and Community Service during federally declared disasters • Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service first commission to have a cooperative agreement allowing any program under the ICVS to provide disaster services during federally declared disasters

Benefits • Provides flexibility for Iowa AmeriCorps programs to continue services at host sites • Diversifies resources, especially in rural communities • Centralizes disaster response and recovery efforts for Iowa • Creates opportunity to customize member teams with specific skill sets to meet the need of disaster affected communities

IA HSEMD Partnership • ICVS works closely with state emergency management • Primary partner for unaffiliated, disaster volunteer management • Member of the Iowa Volunteer and Donations Management Team • Presence at State Emergency Operations Center during disaster events • ICVS provides Volunteer Solutions as the disaster volunteer management portal in AidMatrix

  5. Volunteer Centers • ICVS provides support services for VC and VCO • Increased volunteer center in Iowa in 2011 from 8 to 15 • Of the 99 counties in Iowa, 32 are covered by a volunteer center • Priority of Iowa volunteer centers is disaster volunteer management • Encourage local partnership with county emergency management
