  3. Operation ID "Burglary is the most frequently committed crime in the United States. By participating in Operation Identification you are taking one important step to protect your possessions from burglary and theft."

Preventing Theft Keep your room door locked when unoccupied Keep only small amounts of cash and keep it with you or locked in a SAFE place Small property should be marked with an engraver Be sure vehicle is locked and windows rolled up when unoccupied Never leave items unattended Use lockers at the gym and make sure your locker is locked

  5. Reporting Stolen Items Faculty, Staff, Students, and guests should report all crime and public safety incidents occurring on campus to UNKPD for further investigation 308-627-4811

  7. Reporting Stolen Items When items are stolen, be sure to report the theft to UNKPD, no matter how small, or whether or not you think the item will be found because:

  8. Reporting Stolen Items Repeat offenses in the same area may be an indication the thief will return and attempt a theft from someone else If a suspect is located, your item may be found in the suspects’ possession but if not reported, it can not be returned to you.

Marking Your Property Use an Engraving Tool Engravers can be checked out from UNKPD at General Services Building Choose specific information to put on all your items like your initials and dog(s) name. Never use your D.O.B., social security number, home address, or phone number, you may risk further personal danger. Mark all your property with the engraver using the same identifier

  11. Marking Your Property Mark all your property with the engraver using the same identifier For books, choose a certain page in each book and write your identifier close to the binding. For bicycles, use the engraving tool and mark your identifier on the underside of the frame where the thief won’t know to look and scratch it off CD cases, movies, clothing, and other small items should be marked with a waterproof/permanent marker.
