INTRODUCTION of Folk & Tribal Arts • India has been known as the land that portrayed cultural and traditional vibrancy through its conventional arts and crafts.The 35 states across the country have their own distinct cultural and traditional identities. • Folk Art: Every region of India has its own style and pattern of art, which is known as folk art. • Tribal Art: There is another form of traditional art,which is practiced by several tribes;which is known as tribal art. • Folk & Tribal art belong to the section of people who belong to different social groups and it has a native flavor.They have a set of belief system that allows them to interpret things in their own native ways and this influence them in their art.

INTRODUCTION of Folk & Tribal Arts • The folk and tribal arts of India are very ethnic,simple, colorful & vibrant enough to speak volumes about the country's rich heritage. • Folk art is however not restricted only to paintings, but also stretches to other art forms such as pottery, home decorations, ornaments, cloth-making and so on. • The regional dances of India,like- Bhangra ,Dandiya ,Bihu etc, are core part of Indian folk art.These folk dances are performed by people to express their exhilaration on every possible event,like-arrival of seasons, the birth of a child, weddings, festivals, etc. • Tribal art ranges through a wide range of art forms, such as wall paintings, tribal dances, tribal music, and so on.

  5. PARTS OF FOLK & TRIBAL ART There are so many types of Folk & Tribal art, like: • Fair & Festival • Pottery • Home Decorations • Tribal Dance • Tribal Music • Tribal Wall Paintings

PAINTINGS • The Indian tribal art includes paintings which are the integral part of the tribal tradition. • Tribal painting is the mirror of the energy of the respective art of various tribal groups. • Tribal paintings are drawn on positive themes and ideas such as birth, life, harvest, journey, celebration and marriage.

MADHUBANI PAINTING • Madhubani painting, also referred to as Mithila Art ,Bihar. • These paintings are popular because of their tribal motifs and use of bright earthy colours. • The work is done on freshly plastered or a mud wall. • For commercial purposes, the work is now being done on paper, cloth, canvas etc.

RAJASTHANI MINIATURE PAINTING • The miniature artists use paper, ivory panels, wooden tablets, leather, marble, cloth and walls for their paintings. • The colours are made from minerals and vegetables, precious stones, as well as pure silver and gold. • The preparing and mixing of colour is an elaborate process. It takes weeks, sometimes months, to get the desired results. • The brushes are required to be very fine, and to get high-quality results, brushes even to this very day are made from hair of squirrels.

  12. PITHORA PAINTING • Pithora is the name of the wedding deity in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.It is considered auspicious to paint the house walls wit the images of deity during family functions like wedding.

  13. PICHHWAI PAINTING • Pichhwai painting portrays Lord Krishna, in various costumes and moods. • It is painted with dark and rich colors on the cloth and hung mostly in the temples.

  14. SANTHAL PAINTING • Santhal painting is painted by Santhal tribes, located in Bihar. • It is painted freehand and reflects their perception of life. • Santhal painting have the simplest themes like the harvest, a field, a happy family, dance, beating wife, quarrel, wine party, gods and goddess on the canvas.

STRENGTH: • Paintings show the culture & tradition. • Paintings show “how people used to live there and what kind of culture and tradition used to go there? • In so many paintings we can see different type of societies,cultures & customs. • In brief,Paintings are mirror of society,culture and custom.

It has so many weakness,like: • It can not affact a lot of people togetherly. • Paintings can not show whole story of the society,culture and customs.on the contrary it can create only image in your mind,which may be sometimes very confussing and doubtful.
