  6. Noteworthy changes from 2013 • Shortened test • Test split into 3 books across 3 days • Day 2 will consist of 1 book with multiple choice and constructed response questions • Grade 5, day 2 will have fewer passages and questions • More authentic text

  16. At school….. • Saturday Prep for grade 4 • Predictive to help guide targeted instruction that each student needs • Mock testing days simulation to ease testing concerns for students • Test preparation, NY Ready

  19. How-to support Math at home • Ensure that they are working on their homework, ask questions about their homework (Can you explain that? How do you know that?). This helps them to understand the why as well as the what around the answer. • Make sure they are practicing their fluencies (the ‘think fast and solve problem’ shift) • Engage your student is ‘real life’ math. (shopping, cooking, solving a mystery). This helps to take math out of isolation and provide connections. • Help your student stay strong. When you see them struggle, encourage a break and then return with different ‘eyes’.

  20. Other support • Help student complete homework • Moral support, be a cheerleader! • Glasses or other needed aides • Healthy breakfast • If your child is ill, keep them home. It would be better for them to take the test on the make-up day versus taking the test while sick. • Sleep!
