  2. 1 Peter: • Author: • The apostle St. Peter after he established the church in Antioch, he preached to Jews and converts through Asia Minor. • Date: • Ca. AD 64. Peter was executed in Rome around AD 64 or 65, and the Neronian persecution referred to in the book began sometime around AD 64. • Recipients: • The letter was written from Rome to the converts and Jaws believers in the 5 provinces (Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia) in Northern Asia Minor. • Occasion: • The epistle was written to encourage them after he heard about the church suffering as a direct result of their faith.

Living Before the World 11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshlylusts which war against the soul, 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. Submission to Government 13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, 14 or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men— 16 as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. 17 Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

Submission to Masters 18 Servants, besubmissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh. 19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: 22 “ Who committed no sin,Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; 23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

  9. Submission • Websters dictionary reads: SUBMISSION ~ The act and attitude of yielding or surrendering oneself to the authority of another. It also carries the meaning of committing something to the consideration of another. It is yielding up of one’s personal ambition and desires to those of another.

  10. Submission • "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, ." (Hebrews 13:17) • " Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing“ (Ephesians 5:24) • "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7) • Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. (Ephesians 5:21)

Submission 13:1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.13:2 Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same, 13:4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain; for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. (Romans 13

  13. Submission • Our submission has everything to do with our relationship to God. Submission is an act of faith. It has nothing at all to do with the quality of character of the person to whom we are submitting • ”Submitting is an act of following. Any leader who does not submit to the wise counsel of those he leads is plunging the whole organization into disaster” • All authority is instituted by God. In fact, it is His will that you and I submit to the people He has placed over us • In most cases, when you and I choose to go against authority and do our own thing, we are actually rebelling against God. As a result we give Satan an opportunity to bring problems into our life
