DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE • Organize small greenhouse farmers into cluster and support them in joint actions for more profit: • joint supply/sharing of technology, raw materials, market intelligence, etc., • food-safety and security trainings,global GAP certification, • introduction of joint quality control system, • better coverage of local market, exports, • constructive dialogue with farmers and the Government, • research on new technologies, innovation, sustainable practices, material reuse, • development of strategic alliances with other producers/suppliers and organizations, • study trips, participation in trade fairs. • Awareness Raising and Educating about advantages of greenhouse farming to motivate more farmers for greenhousing.

STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE • increasing exports of agricultural products (“voedselschuur CARICOM“), replacing imports of food, • support of the local Agro industry • food security and food safety, • minimizing the influences of the environment • better disease control (minimizing seasonal impacts – price fluctuation), • consumer benefits (higher quality, lower price), • higher/constant quality, quaranteed consistent production, • higher yield, • less labour intensive, • higher technological sophistication (precision agriculture).

  7. Impact of the initiative in 5 years • Direct job creations about 6.000 (2.000 growers/3 people). • Indirect jobs (greenhouse constructors, supplier, processors, exporters) 5.000 people.
