  1. Using an Encyclopedia

  2. Look for a person’s LAST NAME. Example: George Washington Kobe Bryant Henry Ford

  3. When a person has a title, look under the name, not the title. Example: Queen Isabella King George Princess Diana

  4. When a word has two parts and is NOT A NAME, look for the first part of the word. Example: New York circulatory system Pacific Ocean carbon dioxide

  5. For an abbreviation, look for the word as if it were spelled in full. Example: St. Patrick’s Day (Saint) Mt. Rushmore (Mount) NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)
