  1. 6 Tips for Healthy Ageing

  2. Aging is an inevitable process. Your body goes through a lot of changes as you age. Your skin develops wrinkles and your hair starts turning grey. You don’t feel the same vigor and stamina like before. But getting older doesn’t mean that you will have several medical conditions or a poor quality of life. Despite the fact that you don’t feel like a youth anymore, you can enjoy aging if you are familiar with the changes going on with your body and take care of your health. All you need to do is live a healthy lifestyle built around exercises, nutritious foods, precautions and positive thinking. We have listed some tips on how to stay healthy as you age:

  3. Eat Healthy Foods: A balanced diet is important for health, energy and preventing illness. Make sure to add lots of fruit and veggies, oily fish, low fat dairy and lean meat to your meals. Keep your body hydrated by drinking 8-10 glasses of water in a day. Divide your meals in small portions, instead of having a bigger meal all at once. Try to avoid saturated fat and fizzy drinks. If you drink alcohol, limit it five days a week to give your liver time to recover from the toxic effects of alcohol.

  4. Stay Active: Exercise is as important as a healthy diet at this point of life. Regular exercises help you stay active, strong and in shape. They minimize the risks of heart diseases, stroke, diabetes, obesity and some cancers. According to health experts, older adults should perform 150 minutes of moderate intensity workout per week, as well as strengthening workouts twice a week.

  5. Take Care of Your Brain Too: Cognitive decline is an accepted part of aging. Many older adults have Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases which affect their mental cognitive functions like memory and reasoning. It is essential to be involved in activities that help strengthen cognitive power. Solve puzzles, play video games, read books, take dance lessons and learn to play musical instrument to keep your brain active.

  6. Get Enough Sleep: Sleep deprivation can lead to depression, irritability, memory problems and fall risk in older adults. Make sure to sleep for seven to nine hours per night. Also try to cut down on daytime naps. If you are having trouble falling asleep, visit your doctor as it can be insomnia. • Go For Checkups: • Hearing loss and eyesight problems are common in aging adults. It is important to get them checked regularly. Apart from that, several medical problems can be traced and prevented in initial checkups.

  7. Spend Time with Family and Friends: More than 20% adults in the USA are living alone or single due to health problem, retirement or loss of a spouse. Spending time with your loved ones can help you overcome the feeling of loneliness, depression and anxiety. You can also find new friends by using Skype or joining social media groups. These are a few things that can help you lead a healthy life even as you age.
