  4. At NIU Health Services • All eligible students are welcome! • Many services are free of charge. (Details will be discussed later.) • No insurance is needed to use Health Services!

  6. Immunization Requirements Proof of immunizations required by the State of Illinois: • Tetanus/diphtheria (Td) OR Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) • Measles • Mumps • Rubella

  7. Immunization RequirementsDeadline • September 8,2014 (by the 10th day of the first term enrolled) • After that date a late fee will be charged to student, and a registrationencumbrance will be placed on the records of students who are not in compliance.

Immunization RequirementsTetanus-Diphtheria • A series of 3 vaccines that contain tetanus-diphtheria (Td) and at least one dose of tetanus/diptheria/pertussis (Tdap). • The last dose done within 10 years. • Records should be submitted from an International Certificate of Vaccination (Yellow Booklet).

  9. Immunization RequirementsMeasles, Mumps & Rubella • Two doses of MMR - advised • Titers (blood tests) to show immunity to measles, mumps and rubella.

Immunization RequirementsRequired Records • MMR –Two vaccines must be at least one month apart and both after one year of age. • Titers (blood tests) – may be acceptable but must be reviewed by Health Services. • Titers can be done at Health Services for a fee. If immunity is proven, MMR vaccine is not required.

  11. Immunization RequirementsIf Records Not Available • Vaccines can be given at Health Services for the following costs: • Tdap $49.00 • Td $34.50 • MMR $68.00 Prices are subject to change. • Cost can be paid cash, check, billed to NIU Bursar account, or charged to Mastercard or Visa. If you have NIU student insurance the cost of vaccines can be billed to that insurance.

  13. Health Services Visit SchedulesFall 2014 • Tuesday, August 19,2014 8:00 am-12:00 and 1:00 to 3:30 pm • Wednesday, August 20,2014 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm • Thursday, August 21,2014 8:00 am-12:00 and 1:00 to 3:30 pm Friday, August 22,2014 8:00-12:00 and 1:00 to 3:30 pm

  14. Health Services Visit • NO SERVICES ON WEDNESDAY MORNING Coming to Health Services to complete this screening is mandatory.

  15. TB Testing • TB questionnaire completion is required of ALL international students • TB testing is required for students who have lived in or traveled to a country at risk for TB. • Testing for TB will be done by way of a blood test. Results will be available in one week. • Cost of blood test is covered for students with NIU student insurance

  16. Cost coverage of TB blood test • Students who do not have NIU student insurance coverage will be responsible for the cost of the blood test – currently $60.00. They may obtain a receipt which can be submitted to their insurance.

  17. Services Available at Health Services • A wide variety of out patient health care services • Minor injuries • Appointments with a Health Services physician.

  18. Cost of Services • Student activity fees cover many services! • Charges for medications, immunizations, missed appointments, and certain specialized procedures and supplies do apply.

  19. Available Services withNo Charges! • Physician or practitioner visits • X-rays • Most lab tests • May other services provided

  20. Eligibility • All currently enrolled students (full or part-time) who have been assessed on-campus students fees are eligible. All eligible students are welcome to use NIU Health Services!

  21. No Need of Insurance to use Health Services • NIU Student Health Insurance or any other health insurance is not needed to use Health Services!

  22. Important Reminders • Health Services does not pay for any medical care received elsewhere. • Check with NIU Student Health Insurance for coverage.

  23. Important Reminders • Health Services does not provide emergency medical care. • Call 911 or Kishwaukee Community Hospital Emergency Department for emergency care.

  24. Health Services Hours • Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM • Summer hours may vary.

  28. Healthy Practices • Find balance between classes, work, rest and fun • Rest to relieve stress and fight off illness • Good hygiene and frequent hand-washing help reduce spread of illness

  29. Healthy Practices • Poor nutrition and stress – major factors for illness in students. • Take time to rest and eat well.

  30. Healthy Practices • Ask other students where you can find familiar foods. • Take breaks from school or other work. • Spend time in social activities.
