Progressive Movement

The Progressive Movement of the early 20th century saw the rise of muckrakers—journalists, writers, and artists who exposed societal issues and injustices. Through newspapers, books, and magazines, these educated individuals shed light on corruption and poor living conditions. Notable muckrakers include Ida Tarbell, who chronicled the history of Standard Oil; Jacob Riis, who revealed the struggles of the urban poor in "How the Other Half Lives"; and Upton Sinclair, whose groundbreaking novel "The Jungle" highlighted the horrors of the meatpacking industry.
