  3. A collaboration between BA Fine Art and The Museum of Design in Plastics that takes the form of a project that examines a variety of artist responses to the idea of ‘The Museum’ and uses MoDiPas a Cabinet of Curiosities to inspire and motivate. ModipProject

  4. BA Fine Art level 4 students are offered the opportunity to respond to the Museum of Design in Plastics. Not specifically to the collection of plastics but to the idea of Museology.

This project offers you the opportunity to make work in response to the idea of ‘The Museum.’ It is a collaborative project between BA Fine Art and The Museum of Design in Plastics and will culminate in the works being exhibited in the Library and on the Museum Blog during the summer term. You will have the chance to visit the museum collection and discuss various aspects of museology. The work does not need to directly relate to the Plastics Museum and may be real or fictional, an intervention with an exhibit, an intervention as a way of starting a new dialogue or a quest to explore both the rational and the irrational.   6. An introductory lecture is given to all level 4 students to introduce them to some of the devices and strategies used by artistsin their responses to museum collections. The Practicalities

  7. Students who are interested in doing the project visit MoDiP, have a tour of both the museum and behind the scenes. The students discuss with MoDiP staff their interests, queries, investigations and requests? How?

  8. Once work is made students liase with the MoDiP staff regarding the way their work will be displayed. Students provide a text to go with their work. All of the work is then put on the MoDiP Blog and the video and sound pieces are shown on the website.

  9. The project resulted in a variety of responses that involved: Investigating the systems of museums, making reference to the accumulation of objects, methods of display, cataloguing and hierarchy. Providing new ways of looking and a critique of practices. The Results

  10. Using actual museum objects to make a work that invites new interpretation or ways of thinking. Using plastic as a medium either for its material qualities or as a means of making comment. Exploring the habits and reactions of visitors
