  2. Introduction • Why did we hike Berry Flats trail? • We wanted to collect data on native plants & animals. • So we can learn about information about Koke’e.

  3. Survey • What kind of testing did we do? • We took pictures of plants and more, we also took observations along the transect. • And we ate lunch.

  4. What types of tools did we use… • GPS • Transect • Camera • Quadrant

  5. What is a GPS? A GPS is a global positioning device that can tell you where you are or where you want a point to be.

  6. Pictures

  7. A transect is a piece of string that is made a certain distance and goes through a section the we wanted to study. What is a transect?

  8. Pictures and photographs!

  9. Quadrant? What’s that? • A quadrant is a object that you throw to study inside a area to collect data. • How does it work? You throw it and study inside the object.

  10. Same plants, different lights.

  11. Creative pictures!!!

  12. Data Collection • Elevation from sea level • Longitude and Latitude • Native plant cover and alien plants

  13. We did this because: • We did this so we can learn about the forest and how to protect the forest. • We also did this to protect the native plants and learn about our environment

  14. Did you know that… • Did you know that some of the trails are full of native plants ? • Did you know that there are many invaders in Koke’e ?

  15. What we learned about …teamwork, kuleana, & communication. • We learned that teamwork is an important. • We also learned that kuleana means responsibility which our group had. • We even noticed that every one in our group communicated very well.

  16. What if … • If we didn’t have this information then people who went on field trips in the future wouldn’t now what to do. • If we didn’t pull ginger on the trail then it would overcome the native plants.

  17. What if 2.0 • If forest managers had this information they would know that there were a lot of endangered plants in Koke’e. • If visitors had this information then they would know not to pull endangered plants.
