  2. Preview • What You Need: • A Mac computer • Advantages: • You don’t need to download anything. It comes standard on Macs. • Interface pretty intuitive. • Highlighting, typing, arrows, underlining all neatly on your lecture slides. • Disadvantages: • You cannot write on it with a stylus. • Hard to look at lecture slides and PDF simultaneously if you have a smaller computer Natalie Smith, Class of 2017, Natalie.a.smith1@gmail.com

  3. Adobe Reader • What You Need: • PC or mac • Advantages: • Standard on PCs • Easy to understand • You can add sticky notes or boxes • Disadvantages: • No stylus Chelsea Earley, Class of 2018, cearley424@gmail.com

What You Need: • An iPad or iPhone • Advantages: • You can download directly from Moodle • You can draw directly on slides, highlight, type • You can organize by class • Works with PDFs, word documents, powerpoints • Can sync to dropbox • Disadvantages: • $15.00 at the app store  • Accessories: • Keyboard and stylus if wanted Kristen Harris, Class of 2018, kah345@njms.rutgers.edu

  5. What you need: • Computer, tablet, or phone • Advantages • Free!   6. What You Need: • iPad, iPhone, or laptop • Advantages: • Customizable. You can choose your own pen and highlighter colors • Converts automatically to PDF • You can have multiple lectures open at once • Can link to Google Drive and Dropbox • Can sync between devices • Digital textbooks • Has a keyboard that comes up • Disadvantages: • Not as fluid when switching between tools as Samsung Galaxy Note • $9.99 • Accessories: • Good stylus a plus KrinaVyas, Class of 2017, krinavyas@gmail.com

What You Need: • You can use it on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone • Advantages: • Free! • You can write and draw on your notes • Notes taken on your laptop can be found on other devices and vice versa • OCR – can recognize what you have hand-written • Good for collecting and organizing • Disadvantages: • Only for Mac • Harder to switch between tools than with Preview • Accessories: • A stylus, if you like handwriting notes

  11. Papyrus • What You Need: • Tablets with active digitizers (Recommended: Samsung Galaxy Note) • Pen has a magnet inside it. Detects pen tip while pen hovers. One side is an eraser. Pressure sensitive (harder pressure = bolding). Finger highlights. • Advantages: • Recognizes handwriting pretty well • Infinite • Find function! • Learning curve not steep • Disadvantages: • Stylus that came with it was a little small for his hand • $5.00 for converting to PDF capability

What You Need: • iPad or iPhone • Advantages: • Automatically converts other files into PDFs • Can organize files by class • Great for if you are in lecture or like to watch podcasts • Can review anywhere! • Light • Right-handed and lefthanded option (can tell where your palm is) • Disadvantages: • Free until you have to pay $5.99 at the app store • No multifunctionality • Cannot sync to other devices, but can visit the Cloud • Accessories: • Logitech Folio • Jotpro Stylus

Galaxy Tablet • Advantages: • Comes in a variety of sizes (12.2”, 10” also good) • Smart pad knows where your pen is before you touch the tablet • Can take screenshot by touching the pen • Plays multiple apps at once, switches smoothly between apps • Expandable memory • Comes with pen • Disadvantages: • $650 for the tablet (but still cheaper than the iPad!) • Apps to Use with Galaxy Tablet: • PDF Max • Anki Droid (Good for flashcards)

Recommended Devices/ Accessories • iPad mini and Samsung Galaxy Note can fit in your white coat pocket, which will have huge advantages during third year! • Styli • Jotpro by Adonit ($35 stylus that is super precise!) • The Friendly Swede ($10-17 for a four pack, mesh-tip, super cute designs!) • Cross – stylus, red and black ink, pencil • Tablet Accessories • Logitech Keyboard Folio Case for iPad • Cleaning cloth, could use sunglasses cloth
