  6. Optical Mouse Functionality • An optical mouse will not work on a white surface • Use the mouse trays on the WOWs instead of the white tabletop; the mouse tray can open to the right or the left Mouse Tray • TIP: • Can also use a simple piece of • white paper

  7. More Optical Mouse Functionality • Don’t know if you have an optical mouse? Turn the mouse over: An optical mouse has a red laser on the bottom. The laser needs to be on a dark surface for the mouse to work properly A ball mouse will work on any color surface. However, if the ball gets dirty, it will stop working correctly

  8. Troubleshooting Monitor, Mouse, and Keyboard Issues • Make sure a nonfunctioning monitor, mouse, or keyboard is plugged all the way into the computer • Most clinical workstations have USB keyboards and mice. You can plug these into any USB port on the computer. The illustration to the right shows what USB ports and plugs look like • Most monitors need to be plugged into an electrical outlet in addition to the computer

  9. Scanner Success Keep wireless scanners in their bases when they are not in use A wireless scanner works only on the computer where its base is attached. Make sure the label on the scanner matches the label on the base If a medication will not scan, try resetting the scanner. Reset barcodes similar to these will be attached to all computers

  10. Wireless Scanners Troubleshooting: If scanner will not scan: • Reset scanner using appropriate reset barcodes. • Clean metal pieces on bottom of handheld and where it connects to the base with alcohol pad.

  11. Wireless Scanners Troubleshooting: If scanner will not scan: • Be sure both green light (connected) and red light (power) on base are on. • If the red light that scans the barcodes will not turn off, call Help Desk 3-4357 green red

  12. Wireless Scanners Troubleshooting: If scanner will not scan and/or is making constant beeping: • Remove base from Velcro surface. • Disconnect both cables from bottom of base (see next slide for pictures, etc.). • Reconnect both cables. • Reset scanner using appropriate reset barcodes. • Contact the Help Desk @ 3-4357 • if this does not fix problem.

  13. Wireless Scanners • There are 2 cables on scanner’s base, a power cable and a USB cable. • USB cable connects to base like a telephone, use a pen to hold down plastic piece while pulling cable out. power USB
