Optical Mouse Functionality
  • An optical mouse will not work on a white surface
  • Use the mouse trays on the WOWs instead of the white tabletop; the mouse tray can open to the right or the left

More Optical Mouse Functionality
  • Don’t know if you have an optical mouse? Turn the mouse over:

An optical mouse has a red laser on the bottom. The laser needs to be on a dark surface for the mouse to work properly

A ball mouse will work on any color surface. However, if the ball gets dirty, it will stop working correctly

Troubleshooting Monitor, Mouse, and Keyboard Issues

  • Make sure a nonfunctioning monitor, mouse, or keyboard is plugged all the way into the computer
  • Most clinical workstations have USB keyboards and mice. You can plug these into any USB port on the computer. The illustration to the right shows what USB ports and plugs look like
  • Most monitors need to be plugged into an electrical outlet in addition to the computer

Scanner Success

Keep wireless scanners in their bases when they are not in use

A wireless scanner works only on the computer where its base is attached. Make sure the label on the scanner matches the label on the base

If a medication will not scan, try resetting the scanner. Reset barcodes similar to these will be attached to all computers
