  1. Meet the Perez Sontay FamilyRepresentative Family in Latin AmericaGustavo (father), Irma (mother), Osvaldo (son), Mario(son), Irma Vitalina • (daughter), Glendy (daughter), Wildrido (son), and Claudia (daughter)

  2. They live in El Tineco, Guatemala

  3.  Gustavo is a pastor with the Presbyterian Church. He also attends theological training classes through the Calvin Seminary of Guatemala

  4. p As part of his duties as a pastor and as a board member with CRWRC's partner, Vid y Pámpanos(Vine & Branches), Gustavo travels to neighboring communities to teach agricultural techniques and provide pastoral counseling.

  5. Since most of the area residents are subsistence farmers, Gustavo instructs them on agricultural techniques.

  6. Such as how to use compost and worms to improve their agricultural production

  7. Or how to plant and care for new varieties of crops

  8. One of the new crops that has been planted is chaya. Researchers say that chaya contains powerful doses of vitamins, proteins, and minerals that are helpful in thetreatment of diabetes, cancer & AIDS. They are also encouraging the Onchenge family and their neighbors to raise different types of animals in order to diversify their sources of income. Here the children show off one of their family chickens.

  9. Gustavo has been able to convince the leaders of the community to plant chaya throughout El Tineco. They plan to see what benefits the plant may have in the treatment of diseases that are prevalent among the poor people of the area.

  10. In addition to these tasks, Gustavo has an ice cream business to supplement his income.

  11. Irma is also busy. She is attending literacy classes and encourages others to learn.

  12. The whole family also serves as Christian witnesses in their community

  13. While the family may seem “poor” by our standards, they are making a lasting difference to those around them.

  14. Your prayers & gifts will help families like the Perez Sontayfamily work toward a better future

  15. When you decide to partner with the Free a Family program, you get the opportunity to connect with a real family that CRWRC is working with - to celebrate their success, join them in challenges, and support them with your prayers.

  16. Thank you!
