  3. Aksum, A Center of Trade and Christianity • Aksum • City located in the mountains • Controlled trading port at Adulis • Conquered much of modern Ethiopia and Southwestern Arabia • Grew in strength and wealth

  4. Traded as far as India • Not just goods, beliefs and ideas as well • One of main goods Aksum controlled • Elephant tusks • Used for carving Trade Ivory

  5. Learned about Christianity • Became Christian himself • Made Christianity religion of his kingdom • Most people under Aksum’s rule converted to Christianity • Controlled major trade routes linking Africa to Europe and Asia for several hundred years King Ezana A.D. 300s Aksum

Facts about Christianity • Christian Beliefs • Jesus Christ is the Son of God. • God sent his Son to earth to save humanity from the consequences of its sins. • Jesus gave his life on the Cross and rose from the dead on the third day (the Resurrection). • There is only one God, but there are three elements to this one God: • God the Father • God the Son • The Holy Spirit • Christians worship in churches. • Their spiritual leaders are called priests or ministers. • The Christian holy book is the Bible, and consists of the Old and New Testaments. • Christian holy days such as Easter and Christmas are important milestones
