  3. Philosophy & Mission • Developed and provided in a multidisciplinary manner. • Ignatius Principles reflected in program, such as: • Cura Personalis; • Discernment; • Magis; • Collaboration; • Men & Women for others

Conceptual framework • The conceptual framework of the College of Nursing is to provide structure and rational to the education received in the nursing program. • Based on model of Leininger & McFarland, who incorporated the following principles into their model, such as: • Culture; • Care; • Diversity/Universality; • Computer Literacy • Goal: To direct students to respect other cultures and interact in various ways, as depicted:

Conceptual Framework • Moves Student to Learn of and Respect other Cultures/People • Diversity/Universality: The student will learn to respect the differences and the universality of patients, and the differences in understanding of the diversity of the patients’ care expectations and understanding of the term “health”.

  7. Conceptual framework • Informatics/Computer Literacy The students will learn to manage and positively utilize resources, devices, and methods to acquire, retrieve, use and apply health information into the delivery of safe, evidenced based nursing care to the patients.

  8. Conceptual framework • Caring :The nursing students will be taught to care for all patient types by way of academically/evidence based patient care principles and practices.

  9. Conceptual framework • Culture: The nursing students will learn of various cultures, via patient care of diverse patient types and service learning projects, assigned and voluntary.

  10. Approvals of Model • Approval: The Concept model (Leininger & McFarland) on which this school is based is also supported by accrediting bodies that includes the following: • National League for Nursing (NLN) • PA State Board of Nursing

Program Goals The goals of the Ignatius University of Scranton College of Nursing are: • Prepare nurses to deliver highest quality of care by providing evidence based practice principles • Apply the nursing process in various health care settings to provide comprehensive nursing care • Demonstrate leadership in education, research and provide patient safety in all aspects of care • Demonstrate critical thinking, ethical judgment and decision making

Program goals • Incorporate teaching in all aspects of care and evaluates patient care outcomes • Engage in health promotion and prevention across the life span • Recognize the health needs of today's society and function in a changing healthcare delivery system • Provide professional nursing care based on knowledge derived from theory and research • Collaborate with other healthcare providers and members of the general public in promoting the health and wellbeing of people throughout the life cycle. • Instill the values and skills necessary for lifelong learning • Demonstrates the use of professional nursing standards

Course of Study Preadmission (On acceptance to nursing program): • -Student will have completed a nurse aide course and taken/passed the PA state certification examination; • -Student will have a “Summer Reading List” that includes: • *QSEN (Quality and Safety Education in Nursing) • *JCAHO.com Who are they r/t nursing/health • care? • *CMS.gov Who are they r/t health care?
