  1. Tensile Strength and Load Capacity of Steel Doors

  2. Introduction Steel doors for commercial and industrial establishments come with single, double, and leaf-and--half designs. Every design has its applications and benefits. It is important to analyse your security needs before choosing the right kind of door. Industrial units require steel-doors for protection from burglary and unauthorised intrusion. The doors can be installed at the main entrances, warehouses, production units, processing units, etc. They are also used in places like storage of hazardous materials and chemicals.

  3. Steel Door Security - from level 1 to Level 5 The first level of security doors will be the standard type. They are used in the front entry of offices, homes, shops, etc. Mostly such buildings are located in busy areas where the movement of people is high. When combined with security cameras and alarms, they can provide adequate security. The second level of security-doors is for warehouses, workshops, and other related commercial establishments. The thickness of the doors will be from 1.75" and more. They are called heavy-duty doors. They may have single or twin locking mechanisms. It is necessary to have an alarm system with the doors to provide a maximum level of security. The third levels of security-doors are for additional security that is needed for jewellery shops and other units that handle high-value materials. The door thickness could be from 2" and more. Application of reinforced steel or galvanized steel with alloys can enhance the security features from high to very high levels.

  4. The fourth levels of security-doors are considered to be under the maximum-duty category. Bank strong-rooms, storage spaces in industries, warehouses, and high-value product manufacturing units are some of the most prominent places where the level-four security-doors are installed and used. The fifth-levels of security-doors are used in highest-risk zones like nuclear power plants, chemical plants, weapon-storage unit, etc where the possibility of attacks is critically high. The intruders may use electrical tools, explosives, and heavy mechanical tools for breaking in. The thickness of doors may be from 4” and more.

  5. Solid Steel or Hollow Door – Insulation for Extra Protection The weight of solid steel doors could be too much to handle for the frames and walls of residential and commercial units. Hence, the application of hollow fire rated steel door came into existence. It is a solid mass of steel at two distinct layers, namely the exterior and interior. Forging, welding, and finishing processes assemble the two sections into a single piece. The hollow part at the centre has to be filled with materials like honeycomb, mineral core, polystyrene, or polyurethane. These materials provide insulation from climatic conditions and also increase the impact bearing capacity of the door. The exterior, as well as the internal access doors in the commercial and industrial units, can use the steel doors of various security levels, based on the specific requirements.

  6. Conclusion Steel doors for the commercial and industrial units should have sufficient strength and stamina for protecting the interiors from external attacks and elements. You can analyse the features from level-1 to level-5 before choosing the right kind of door.
