  1. Duplex Steel Sheet

  2. Overview of Duplex Steel Sheet • Duplex plates are characterized by a dual-microstructure, combining both austenitic and ferritic properties, which enhances their strength and corrosion resistance. • The chemical composition includes elements like chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and nitrogen, contributing to excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments. • Duplex plates are widely used in industries such as marine systems, oil and gas exploration, chemical processing, and paper manufacturing, owing to their durability and resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

  3. Duplex Steel Sheet Specifications Key Specifications Duplex plates are available in various thicknesses ranging from 5mm to 100mm and widths of 1500mm to 3000mm, with lengths up to 12000mm. ● Common grades of duplex plates include S2205 (UNS S31803), known for its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. ● Tensile strength for duplex plates typically reaches up to 95 ksi, with a minimum yield strength of 65 ksi. ● Hardness is generally measured at a maximum of 31 Rockwell C, ensuring the durability of the material in demanding applications. ● The density of duplex plates is approximately 7800 kg/m³, contributing to their robust mechanical performance. ●

  4. Types of Duplex Steel Sheet Duplex Stainless Steel Sheet Duplex Steel Coil Thick plates, typically 6mm or thicker, used in structural applications and chemical processing due to their high strength and corrosion resistance. Rolls of duplex steel, often used in manufacturing and construction, offering flexibility in production and installation. Duplex Foil Clad Plate Thin sheets, less than 0.2mm thick, used in packaging and insulation applications, providing excellent corrosion resistance. Duplex plates with a layer of stainless steel bonded to a carbon steel base, enhancing corrosion resistance while maintaining structural integrity.

  5. Material Grades and Properties Overview of Duplex Material Grades UNS S31803 is the most common duplex stainless steel grade, known for its good corrosion resistance and strength. ● UNS S32205 offers higher corrosion resistance and strength, particularly in chloride environments. ● These grades are widely used in various industries including oil and gas, marine, and chemical processing. ● Mechanical Properties Yield strength of UNS S31803 is approximately 65 ksi (450 MPa). ● UNS S32205 demonstrates a higher yield strength of around 70 ksi (480 MPa). ● Elongation for both grades typically ranges from 25% to 30%, indicating good ductility. ●

  6. Comparison with SS 316 ● Lower price at approximately $3.45 per kg compared to SS 316's $4.98 per kg. Advantages of Duplex Plates ● Higher resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion due to superior chemical composition. ● Better overall toughness and strength, capable of withstanding harsh environments. ● Lower molybdenum content than SS 316, which may affect certain corrosion resistance properties. Disadvantages of Duplex Plates ● Potential for rust when exposed to temperatures above 600°F, unlike SS 316 which has higher heat resistance. ● Less well-known than SS 316, which may influence purchasing decisions in some industries.

  7. Applications and Usage Marine Industry Oil and Gas Sector Chemical Processing Duplex plates are widely used in shipbuilding and offshore structures due to their high corrosion resistance and strength, essential for marine environments. In oil and gas exploration, duplex plates are utilized for pipelines and equipment that require durability against harsh conditions and corrosive substances. Chemical processing plants employ duplex plates for storage tanks and reactors, benefiting from their resistance to chloride pitting and stress corrosion cracking.
